Sara Alves

Sara is a master’s degree student investigating the potential mechanism leading to immunotolerance mediated by extracellular vesicles (EVs).

Sara graduated in Biology from the University of Porto and her graduation thesis was focused on the study of CCR7 chemokine receptor in the dissemination of the T-cell Leukemia in collaboration with Dr. Nuno Rodrigues dos Santos at i3s.

Currently, she is focused on the potential role of EVs on the modulation of the immune system, in healthy and Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma contexts. This project uses the CD63 reporter mouse model to identify the EVs-receiving cells in the thymus and the Rab27a knockout mouse model to quantify potential differences in the structure and composition of the same organ.
