Carolina graduated in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Algarve. Under the supervision of Professor Paula Soares, her BSc thesis focused on validation studies for Uromonitor®, a sensitive urine-based assay used to detect bladder cancer recurrences.
Carolina completed her MSc degree in Oncology at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto. Due to their rare occurrence and lack of in-depth information, her thesis focused on the molecular characterization of a series of upper urinary tract urothelial carcinomas.
During her still short but intensive career, she has accumulated advanced technical expertise in the laboratory and participated in several courses and conferences with poster and oral communications.
She is now a first-year PhD student in the Biomedicine Doctoral Program at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, under the supervision of Dr Sónia Melo. Her PhD project aims to identify novel immune-based strategies to treat PDAC patients by unraveling reprogramming events led by cancer EVs that establish the immunosuppressive microenvironment.
